Galliprant™- the vets’ perspective

Nobody knows the reality of treating canine OA better than vets, so we caught up with several vets who have prescribed Galliprant, to see which types of dogs would benefit most from it.*

Galliprant has been available in the UK and Ireland for over a year and was recently voted by vets as the best new product 2019.
We wanted to know more about how Galliprant is helping dogs across the country, and to share experiences and recommendations from those who have prescribed it.
Over the last 6 months we spoke with vets who have been using Galliprant in their practices. In particular, we were interested to know which types of dogs the vets found to benefit most from Galliprant.
**Dr Catherine Jewkes** at Bath Vet Group said that Galliprant “takes a lot of stress out of the longterm treatment.” As Galliprant doesn’t interfere with homeostatic mechanisms mediated through other receptors, it represents a good option for dogs who need long-term† treatment.
**Dr Paul Treacy**, from Treacy & Sheehan Vets, discussed how targeted treatment can help improve a dog’s quality of life, and help pet owners feel more comfortable with treatment: “Some owners struggle with the idea of long-term treatment. Using more targeted management of pain works and helps to improve quality of life. Galliprant directly targets the areas where pain comes from, without affecting other areas.”
With all the changes everyone has had to adjust to during the pandemic, other benefits of prescribing Galliprant have arisen, as **Dr Carolyn Kyte** from Vets4Pets explains: “I usually take blood samples before starting OA treatment, and intermittently throughout. But during lockdown I’ve been reluctant to make more reasons for people to make journeys. Galliprant’s label doesn’t require blood testing at specific times, so it’s been really useful during lockdown.”

__Three types of dog who would benefit most from Galliprant__

![news page](https://assets-eu-01.kc-usercontent.com/7d1fb288-b93d-015d-f61e-abc4dbdfe522/50a1057a-44e9-446a-978f-81e52879be64/149122C_Newspage Image_740x575px_DR4 %281%29.jpg)

__View Galliprant Case Studies (log in or register with MyElanco)__

__Watch video; Targeted pain management in canine osteoarthritis – 1 hr CPD__

__[Log in](https://www.myelanco.co.uk/login) or [register](https://www.myelanco.co.uk/register) with MyElanco for more CPD opportunities__
__*Indication__: Galliprant is indicated for the treatment of pain associated with mild to moderate osteoarthritis in dogs. †As field studies were limited to 28 days, longer-term treatment should be considered carefully and regular monitoring undertaken by the vet.
Galliprant contains grapiprantand is indicated for the treatment of pain associated with mild to moderate osteoarthritis in dogs.
